Visions of Valpo

I´ve been spending the past few days two hours outside Santiago in Valparaiso, ¨Valley of Paradise¨, meandering through the worn, torn pasajes hidden behind the frenetic chaos of the city. I´m sort of in an aimless daze, biding my time until I leave for New Zealand in a few days. It´s kind of romantic wandering alone here up in the empty hills, riding the rickety ascenseurs, surrounded by the dilapidated grandeur of turn-of-the-century architecture, now layered in mosaics and murals. It´s the perfect setting for the twilight-zone state of mind I am in; energetic graffiti set against the the gray sky and the moody, mercurial port-city weather. I add to the city´s art by scrawling random messages in ballpoint pen where I can.

Chorillana is an instantaneous heart attack-inducing plate of fries, egg, onion, and pork. Other local specialities include a hot dog in a disproportionately large bun smothered in ketchup, mayonnaise, and avocado. Valpo may also be known as the City of Drunk Food.
